How does Point Reduction effect my
drivers license and driving record?

Point reduction applies only to points for violations you received during the past 18 months. It cannot be used for future points. For example, if you have no points currently on your license, taking this course does not give you the opportunity to go out and get a speeding ticket or two and not have it count against you.

How do I receive the Point Reduction?

After you complete the Course, Empire Safety Council  will automatically notify the DMV that you have successfully completed the course and a notation is added to your driving record. The DMV computer automatically reduces four points when calculating your total points.

How do I receive the Insurance Reduction?

Approximately two weeks after you complete the course, you will receive a certificate to present to your insurance company or agent. The discount will be effective as of the date you completed the course, not the day you give them the certificate.

Will this course save me from getting my license suspended?

If your license is already revoked or suspended, or if a violation point hearing has already been scheduled, point reduction will not affect that action. The course will not prevent or cancel mandatory suspensions or revocations for violations such as DWI or three speeding tickets in 18 months.

May I repeat the course until all my points are off?

Points may be reduced only once in any 18 month period. However,  if there are no points on your record when you take the course, you may take the course again if you do receive points.

Are DMV and Insurance Points the same?

The DMV point system and insurance company point systems are separate and unrelated. Point reduction on your driving record does not affect points assigned by your insurance company for various violations and accidents.
